dropbox-in-multcloud.pngThis is the horrifying moment a huge torrent of water breaks through a shopping centre ceiling before smashing down on to a woman.

The unsuspecting shopper is swept away by the barrage of rainwater which had ripped through the mall's canvas roof during Typhoon Bailu in China.

The shocking footage from Huixing Commercial Center in Dongguan City, south China, shows the unnamed victim brace just seconds before the water hits her at 5.40pm.

She covers her ears, but the torrent to onedrive crashes down on her head and sends her sliding out of control along the second floor of the shopping centre during the incident on Sunday.

The main impact of the wave is on the second floor, but it also spills over on to the first, where a terrified father scrambles to rescue his son from a children's ride.

The woman and a second shopper were injured by the deluge, which is understood to have been caused by a waterlogged canvas roof which ripped under the strain of heavy rains.

Pictures from after the incident shows the ceiling gaping open, as well as the injured woman covered in dry clothes and sprawled out on the mall's floor.

The shopping centre, which opened in 2016, has a signature open courtyard - which was covered by the large canvas sheet.

A spokesman for the centre said they are unsure what caused the roof to snap but officers from Shilong Town Emergency Management Office are investigating.

The injured were treated at Dongguan Third People's Hospital and released the same day, reports said.

Typhoon Bailu, which is the 11th storm to hit China this year, saw more than 48,000 people to be evacuated before it made landfall early on Sunday morning.

There were up to 9,926 fishing boats moved before it hit China's Fujian Province with winds of up to 56mph.
