BBC's Wimbledon bonanza for fans! Sue Barker hoping to present live

por Douglas O'Flaherty (2020-05-19)

The BBC is hoping to make up for the loss of Wimbledon with a daily show across the scheduled fortnight featuring top players and great memories from the past.

<strong>to<\/strong> cut long story shortSue Barker, the corporation's face of what is their flagship annual sports event, hopes to present live from the All England Club with guests - providing it is considered safe enough when the time comes.

The output would be expected to feature what have already proved highly successful formats in the lockdown from other sports, such as Ben Stokes and Joe Root talking through England's cricket triumphs from last summer.

Wimbledon was cancelled earlier this month because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

'We intend to fill the fortnight with tennis action and chat,' said Barker in an exclusive link shrinker interview with Sportsmail. 'The plan is to film links around Wimbledon or present live from there if it is safe to do so.'

The plans have been formulated since The Championships, which were due to take place from June 29 to July 12, were formally abandoned on April 1.

'Maybe I will go down and present some of the great matches and memories. For me personally it would be great if we could be in the studio and have, say, McEnroe and Martina from America via a link, perhaps Boris (Becker) wherever he is. Andy (Murray) if he would do it, to talk about his finals and his first appearances at Wimbledon.

'I am sure the players would like to be involved as they won't be playing, and it could be quite exciting.'
